Some coastline impressoins of La Gomera
When you come down the road from the La Gomera rainforest mountains, the first things you see are some houses and the atlantic see. It goes staight ahead down to the coast. In this case the north east coast of La Gomera. With Tenerife in the background. Its a complete change of colors. The dark green and spooky forest on the top, with all the fog and clouds passing throu and the sunny coast with beaches and the blue sea. White painted houses with red roofs, banana plantations and very curvy roads. It was a stop back on my way to the ferry in San Sebastian. I have been on La Gomera for a hiking trip. And thouse pictures are beside impressions from this trip. It was not a phototrip 🙂
The two dancing Butterflies
Two beautyfull red Butterflies having fun with each other on a closed hibiscus blossom. I have never seen butterfly making love before and I don`t expected that they are doing it tail to tail 🙂 They where so busy whis themselves thaty they don`t noticed me and my 150mm Sigma macro lens. Going close was not difficult. Getting enough light for a closed apperture and for a fast shutter speed was the chellenge here 🙂 You can`t see it but they are indoor pictures. Taken at Palmitos Parks House of Butterflies. The Butterfly House and the exotic birds flight show are a good reasen to visit this medium size Zoo in the south of Gran Canaria. The Bird House at Palmitos Park is not as big as Loro Parques Bird flight area but they have a raptor and exotic birds flight show there. And a huge House of Butterflys. Using my Monopod for all thouse photos was no problem. No one of the officials cares about my monopod and 150mm macro lens. This is also a plus. You are not everywhere welcome with professional photo stuff.
Ich habe mir eigentlich die Gedanken darüber gemacht, wie sich Schmetterlinge überhaupt fortpflanzen. Jetzt weiß ich es 🙂 Aber ein wenig überrascht war ich schon im ersten Moment, vor allem darüber das sie sich überhaupt nicht gestört gefühlt haben. Sie waren einfach zu sehr mit dem Flattern und rum hüpfen beschäftigt. Nah ran zu kommen war also schon mal kein Problem. Eher das Licht, um eine möglichst kurze Belichtungszeit zu erreichen und die Blende einigermaßen zu machen zu können. Was man nicht sieht, das ganze spielte sich im Schmetterlingshaus ( House of Butterflys) des Palmits Parks auf Gran Canaria ab. Wegen des Schmetterlingshauses und der Vogelflugshow hatte sich der Besuch dort für mich gelohnt. Delfinshows interessieren mich nicht, und gegen das Vogelhaus im Loro Park kommen sie dort auf keinen Fall an. Wenn man das kennt und als Maßstab nimmt ist man eher enttäuscht.

Sand and Sky – The beautyfull Dunes of Maspalomas
The beautyfull dunes of Maspalomas. Impressions from my last journy to Gran Canaria. The dunes of Maspalomas are a 6×2 square meters areal in the south east of Gran Canaria. The best time to stay there is between the end of April and die beginning of june. Before April its very windy there, so you have some problems with sand, your towel or umbrella and after june the sand is (for me) to hot. The dunes are not so empty as they looks on my pictures. On some days they are full of members of the gay community or of full nudity people. Out there is a big full nutity area. But who cares, its a nice place for taking pictures, The Sand is very finely granulated and the wind makes nice patterns in the dunes. On one side there is a small lake, the left of a former laguna who was taken step by step by the sand. Its a breeding area for a lot of birds and a wildlife sanctuary. Net time I will come with a ND Filter doing some long time exposure.
Sundown Mover at Costa Adeje
I met this group of easy life back packers at Costa Adejes Playa del Duques promenade. They enjoed the sundown and did some music there. After a short conversationthey agreed to do some posing for my sundown silhuette photoseries. And I also did some hero shots with the guitar player. I call it Sundown Mover. I also want to do one of thouse jumping pictures but it was to dangerous to do it there. Just a short wall as a border for the promenade. Guajara Mountain a part of the caldera Las Canadas
Mostly the Guajara mountain stands in the shaddow of the Pico del Teide. thats sad, because the Guajara is allways a visit worth. There is no ropeway or road to the top, but you dont need to be an climbing expert to get on top. Good hiking boots and enough time are enough. On top you are on an high level of 2715 meters with a view over the south of Tenerife, Cran Canaria and La Gomera. On the North side you can look over the the Caldera Las Cañadas with one of the best viewes for the Pico del Teide. On the last picture you can see a Guardia Civil helicopter you . The start searching a missing hiker who startet one day before us to climb up to the top. Its not a very risky tour but at this time of the year there are some slippery frozen parts on the way. So its better to do a guided tour. In the 10 days we stay on this island, they don`t found the missing hiker.
Ein klein wenig steht der Guajara immer im Schatten seines kleinen Bruders Pico del Teide. Wobei ich muß sagen, als Berg hat er mir wesentlich mehr spaß gemacht. Auf der Wanderung hat man sehr wenig Leute getroffen, und oben waren auch keine Massen zu sehen im Gegensatz zum Teide, wo einem sehr viele mit Flip Flops besohlte Touristen per Seilbahn entgegen kommen. Von der Sicht her ist man auf 2715m Höhe weit über den Wolken und kann bei gutem Wetter den Flughafen, Costa Adeje und auf jedenfall Cran Canaria und La Gomera sehen. Es gibt einen leichteren und einen schwierigeren Weg hoch zum Guajara. Wir sind den schwierigeren hoch, und den leichteren wieder runter. Schon alleine damit noch etwas Zeit zum Fotografieren bleibt. Die hat man beim Aufstieg nicht wirklich.
The beach side of Puerto de Mogan
Puerto de Mogan, the small beautyfull fishing village in the south west of Gran Canaria. With the white painted small houses, alle Palms and flowers around, Puerto de Mogan realy looks like it was just build for travel catalogue pictures. OK not all of Puerto de Mogan looks realy nice. There are also some „Cement Castles“ as we call in germany the quick buils tourism hotels of the 80th. But they are a little bit away from the coast side of the village. Fot the most people its important how the beach and the water area looks like. And I can say. beautyfull. The beach and the harbor are man made, not natural as in Maspalomas. Because of that the beach of Puerto de Mogan is sheltered from the wind and the water is a little bit warmer. Its perfect for a nice day trip. To have a little swim, a good meal, and to walk around. We have been there with the public bus system. It works very good on Gran Cararia and it is cheap. But please, take a look at the pictures and you wiill see what I mean.
Several Lizard head photos taken at Zoo Frankfurt
Lizard heads. Actualy I dont know this kind of animals very much. I even don`t know there names. And I forgot to take pictures of their name plates 🙂 So I can`t tell you what kind of Lizzard they are. I ordered a new Sigma 150mm F2,8 EX DG Makro HSM lens via Amazon and went to the Zoo Frankfurt for some test pictures. The Zoo Frankfurt was rebuild after World War Two by Bernhard Grzimek, a renowend zoo director, editor and the first german oscar winner. The Zoo is in the middle of Frankfurt and has a lot of animals, a big exotarium where I took the lizard pictures. The Sigma 150mm lens did a good job on the lizard heads. Only the dept of fields is sometimes little bit to high. I had to chose between a higher dept of fields or reflections in the terrarium screen.
Ein paar Eidechen (Lizard) Köpfe aus dem Frankfurter Zoo. Es sind Testaufnahem für ein Sigma 150mm F2,8 EX DG Makro HSM Objektiv welches ich mir über Amazon kommen lies. Das Objektiv machte einen guten Job an meiner NIkon d800 also hab ich es behalten. Die Schärfe ist sehr aktzeptabel und der Wackeldackel machte einen guten Job. Im Prinzip muß man nicht so weit ran an die Tiere, aber in der Realität sieht das dann schon wieder anders aus. Durch die Spiegelungen in der Glasscheibe hab ich die Gegenlichtblende direkt auf dem Glas aufgesetzt. Wodurch ich ab und an etwas zu nah drann war und nicht den gesamten Kopf scharf bekommen habe.
La Orotava Weather View
At a high level of 1000 meters you have good view over the Orotava vale with his coniferous forest, the clouds coming from the atlantic ocean an the north east side of the vulcano Pico del Teide.
Auf 1000 Höhenmetern hat man eine gute Übersicht über das Gebiet von la Orotava welches sich von der Küste bei Puerto de la Cruz bis hin zum Pico del Teide erstreckt.
A proud hawk – The beauty of a flying hawk
A beautyfull hawk flying high into the sky. It was a very sunny day at Palmitos Parks hawk free flight show. Mostly blue sky just some clouds. Perfect for taking hawk pictures. I have no realy tele lens just my Nikon 70-700, my universal weapon 🙂 So with this lens its hard do take some hawk pictures in real wildlife. I hope to get a 150-600 or 200-500 some day, till then I have to go to bird shows like this for taking hawk or birds in flight pictures. The Palmitos Park is a nice little zoo in the south of Cran Canaria. They have a lot of free flight raptors in ther free flight show, such as Eagles, Marabous, Hawks, and a show with exotic birds. I can also recomend the big butterfly house. The rest is zoo standard. Some meerkats, turles, apes, a botanic garden, the usual zoo stuff 🙂 But the birdshow impressed me very much. Its not only the birds, its the the whole surrounding thats impressive. Not build in the middle of a city, like most of the zoos, the Palmitos Park is build deep into a canyon, it gives a nice atmosphere tho the whole setting.
The Caldera Las Cañadas
The Caldera ( „A caldera is a cauldron-like volcanic feature usually formed by the collapse of land following a volcanic eruption. They are sometimes confused with volcanic craters. The word comes from Spanish caldera, and this from Latin caldaria, meaning „cooking pot. “ (wikipedia)) is called Las Cañadas ( Las Canadas). Its an over 17 Kilometers diameters elevated plain area in the Teide national park. A lots of movies are filmed there. Clash of Titans, Star Wars Ep III for example. I did this area pictures while climbing up th the Guajara Mountain. On the last picture you can see a Guardia Civil helicopter you . The start searching a missing hiker who startet one day before us to climb up to the top. Its not a very risky tour but at this time of the year there are some slippery frozen parts on the way. So its better to do a guided tour. In the 10 days we stay on this island, they don`t found the missing hiker.
Impressionen von einer Wanderung durch die Caldera las Canadas. Ein sehr schönes, ca 17km2 großes Gebiet das sich unterhalb des Vulkans Pico del Teide erstreckt. Natürlich darf bei so einer Wanderung auch meine Kamera nicht fehlen. Wobei es ab und an echt mühsam ist das ganze Geraffel mit zu schleppen. Vor allem wenn es Berg auf geht. Aber dafür entschädigt einen dann der Blick über Las Canadas. Vor allem wenn man an Orten vorbei kommt an denen schon Star Wars oder Kampf der Titanen gedreht wurde. Nicht ganz so schön waren die Begegnungen mit den Rettungstrups die einen seit dem Vortag auf selbiger Strecke vermissten Bergsteiger suchten. Ist schon ein komisches Gefühl wenn man an einem Abgrund steht und um einen Herum ein Rettungshubschrauber kreist. Leider wurde die Person nie gefunden. Dennoch werden wir Las Canadas bestimmt noch einen Besuch ab statten.
Sundown Family
A father and his two little sons watching the sundown and exploring the coast of Costa Adeje. The don`t take notice of me because they walked on top of a wave breaker and I usesd my 70-200 on a lower position. I love it to take pictures against the down going sun. I Found the sundown family at playa del duque and they are a part od my new sundwon silhouette project.
Eine kleine Familie auf einer Buhne an der Costa Adeje. Der Vater zeigt seinen Söhnen den Sonnenuntergang und sie gucken nach kleinen Krebsen zwischen den Steinen. Bemerkt haben sie mich nicht. Eigentlich schade, so werden sie nie die Bilder von sich sehen.
La Gomera Fairytale Forest in Black & White
Impressions taken on a hiking trip deep into the La Gomera rain forest, the so called fairytale forest. It looks very much there like into a Sleepy Hollow or Brother Grimms Fairitale movie. The nature there is dark green and very foggy, beause the atlantic couds move direct throu the forrest. Roots and lianas hanging around from the trees and everything is full with moss and lichen. To get more auf the hauting spirit I decided to take thous pictures in black and white.
Man kann echt meinen man wäre in einem Märchen der Brüder Grimm wenn man durch den Regenwald von La Gomera wandert. Über all hängen Flechten oder Lianen von den Bäumen herunter, es ist dunkel und sehr nebelig weil die Wolken direkt durch den Wald ziehen. Die Steine und Stämme sind komplett mit Moos bedeckt. Hat an manchen Stellen schon fast was von Sleepy Hollow. Ich finde ein Schwarz Weiß transportiert sich die Atmosphäre von dort nochmal wesentlich besser. Vom Wetter und dem Rest bekommt man im Wald nicht viel mit. Es ist immer leicht dunkel und nebelig. Also eine gute Aussicht oder so hat man dort nicht wirklich, obwohl man auf über 1000 Meter ist. Aber die braucht es ja auch nicht immer. Dafür gibt es andere Orte auf La Gomera
Best view for the Pico del Teide
If you want to have one of the best views for the Pico del teide, don`t go up to the Teide, climp up to the top of the 2718m high vulcano based Guajara Mountain. As you can see from there you have a very nice view over the Cañadas with the full Puco del Teide in the Background. I was there in the beginning of january, so as you can see, both Mountaus where covert partly with snow. Its an tropical area but at this highs the snow stays partly in the shadow areas. And it makes you a nice foreground for taking pictures 🙂 On the last picture you can see a Guardia Civil helicopter. Um einen Berg zu fotografieren ist es selten schlau auf diesen zu steigen. Genau so ist das auch beim Pico del Teide, dem höchsten Berg Spaniens. Eine super Sicht auf den Pico del Teide hat man vom Guajara aus, einem 2715m hohen Berg im Süden der Caldera Las Canadas. Von dort aus hat man einen schönen Überblick über die Caldera und eine super Sicht auf den Pico del Teide. Das diese Gegend nicht ganz ungefährlich ist zeigte uns ein Rettungshubschrauber und Suchtrupps die auf der Suche nach einem vermissten Bergsteiger, einem bekannten Sportler der Insel waren. Leider hat man ihn nicht gefunden.
Waves and Breakwater
The nature has a lots of power. We got some stormy days at our trip to Tenerife in january, the waves were high, no swimming or surfing allowed and the breakwater kills some of the quay walls at Puerto de la Cruz. I have tried some „old“ Effects and a lot of contrast sharpening to give some of the picture a more dramatic touch. Its a nice feeling to stand in front of big waves and Breakwater doing the pictures. Maybe I will do it again. But therefore I have to travle 🙂
The Marabou
What a suprise. On my last holiday I went to a free flight show of exotic birds at the Palmitos Park. After some parakeets they anounced a very smal bird and than it was a marabou. It was not the first time I saw one, I have already seen Marabous in Kenia, but I have not payed much attention to them because they where allways sitting on dark trees, now moving, not flying. So it was a big suprise for me and seeing such a big bird in flight, a good chance for taking pictures. It was very easy taking the marabou, because its a very huge bird, a stork family member. I used a Nikon d800 and a 70-200 for shooting the marabou in flight.
Ich hab zwar im Palmitos Park auf Gran Canaria nicht meinen ersten Marabou (Marabu) gesehen, allerdingt war dieser deutlich aktiver als seine brüder in kenia. Von dort kannte ich sie nur auf Bäumen rum sitzend und nichts tun. Nur mal laut kreichen wenn man ihnen zu nahe kommt. Auch wenn er zu einer Vogelshow gehörte war ich doch sehr froh mal einen marabou im Flug fotografieren zu können. Diese art von Storch sieht man ja sonst außerhalb Afrikas eher selten. Denke ich jedenfalls. Und in einen Vogelkäfig gehört er bei der Größe nun nicht wirklich. Da schaut man ihn sich doch lieber in der Luft bei einer Vogelflugshow an 🙂
The great sky view
The great sky view from the top of the 2718m high Guajara Mountain over the Atlantic Ocean and the Canary islands. On one of the picures you can see Cran Canaria far away, on a nother the island of la Gomera. And you have also a great sky view over the Caldera Las Canadas. In my opinion the Guajara is a better place for a grat sky view on tenerife as the Pico del Teide. The Teide is higher but full of tourists with flipflops and shorts comming on top with the cable car. For this great sky view I backpacked my Kata photo bag with a ull frame and 4 lenses all the way up to the mountain by food. All for taking this grat sky view 🙂
Ich muß sagen mir gefällt die Aussicht vom Guajara aus wesentlich besser als vom Pico del Teide, obwohl dieser doch fast 1000 Meter höher ist. Auf dem Guajara hat man mehr Ruhe und es kommen einem nicht so viele Touristen in Flipflops und Hot Pants entgegen wie auf dem Teide. Vor allem sehr sinnvoll bei unter 10° 🙂 Aber da hoch gibt es ja auch keine Seilbahn, sondern man muß den ganzen Weg zu fuß bewältigen. Mehr über Stein als über Stock, und ab und zu recht harkelig, aber für ein gutes Bild oder eine gute Aussicht ist einem ja kein Weg zu weit. Außerdem hat man vom Guajara aus auch noch einen super Blick auf den Pico del Teide, und vor allem über die Caldera Las Canadas mit dem Pico del Teide als Hintergrund. Als Hobby Fotograf ist man ja das Leiden gewohnt, warscheinlich würde auch sonst niemand freiwillig sein ganzes Geraffel in einem Rucksack mit ganz bis oben auf die Spitze schleppen. Zusätzlich zum Wasser und dem Profiant. Aber man will es ja so 🙂
