Die Dünen von Maspalomas

Natur pur. Große Sandberge direkt am Meer. Die Dünen von Maspalomas. Es könnte so schön sein. Hätte nicht jemand sein Hotel mitten in das Naturschutzgebiet gebaut. Ist ja leider oft so in Spanien. An sonsten sind die Dünen wirklich sehr schön. Allerdings sollte man die Dünen von Maspalomas an sonnigen Tagen nur mit passendem Schuhwerk besuchen, der Sand wird sehr heiß. Und man darf sich nicht wundern, die Dünen sind quasi FKK Gebiet und hinter jedem Sandhaufen könnte ein nackter „lauern“. Da es sich um Wanderdünen handelt sehen sie nach jedem Wind anders aus. Leider scheint der Sand abzunehmen oder der Transport nicht mehr zu funktionieren. In kanarischen Zeitungen konnte man von einem „auffüll“ Plan lesen, es soll also Sand aus der Sahara aufgeschüttet werden, damit die Dünen erhalten bleiben.

Agüimes

Wenn man auf den Kanaren unterwegs ist und vor dem einen oder anderen Ortsschild steht wähnt man sich ab und an in der Türkei. So viele Orte oder Namen mit einem Ü findet man sonst selten. So auch bei Agüimes. Einem kleinen Ort im Südosten von Gran Canaria. Agüimes ist in Spainen als Conjunto histórico-artístico klassifiziert, also als Ort mit einem historischem Ortskern oder künstlerisch bedeutenden Bauwerken. Die Häuser sind größtenteils im kanarischen Stil gebaut, es gibt kleine Gassen mit vielen Winkeln. Während meines Besuches waren sie fast Menschenleer. Dabei war es später Vormittag da würde man den einen oder anderen Besucher erwarten. Rund um den Dorfplatz stehen Statuen welche uns das frühere Dorfleben zeigen. Dort liegt auch die Kirche San Sebastián. Erbaut etwa um 1796 im klassizistischen Stil. Aber wirklich willkommen scheint man dort nicht zu sein.

Nachdem ich mit dem Fotografieren gewartet habe bis alle anderen Besucher die Kirche verlassen habe, hat man mich ermahnt das Fotografieren doch zu unterlassen. Es stört die Heiligkeit und Ruhe des Ortes. Allerdings hatten die älteren Herren vorher kein Problem mit den Minirock tragenden und Selfi Stick schwingenden Touristinnen. Denen wurde sogar noch bein hinaus gehen hinter her geschaut. So lockt man jedenfalls keine Besucher in seine Kirche. Wenn fotografieren warum auch immer verboten ist, sollte man ein Schild auf stellen und es muss für alle gelten. Ansonsten gibt es in der Nähe von Agüimes noch den Barranco de Guayadeque eine alte Höhlensiedlung , welche schon zur Zeit der Ureinwohner bewohnt war und zum Teil immer noch bewohnt ist. Und die Petroglyphen im Barranco de Balos, historische Fels und Höhlenzeichnungen. Also genug zum an schauen 🙂

Agüimes is a small town in the southeast of Gran Canaria. Well known for his historic village square and some caves around. Full with cave paintings. There is also a historic chuch known as San Sebastian. Build in 1796 in a classicist style with two towers and a a round dome. The church looks more like a cathedral as like a church.

Santa Lucia de Tirajana

Das kleine Dorf Santa Lucía de Tirajana im Süden von Cran Canaria. Gelegen an einer Wegstrecke hoch in die Berge. Viele Rad und Motorradfahrer machen hier rast. Zu sehen gibt es unter anderem einen neu gestallteren Dorfplatz und eine schön gepflegte katholische Kirche.

Die Iglesia de Santa Lucia. Sie ist für Besucher geöffnet und beherbergt eine hölzerne Marienstatue aus dem 17 Jahrhundert. Einmal im Jahr soll es eine Prozession geben bei der die Statue durch das Dorf getragen wird. Bekannt ist die Kirche außerdem für ihre weiße Kuppel im hinteren Teil. Scheint ungewöhnlich zu sein für spanische Kirchen und erinnert ein wenig an eine Mosche. Im Inneren ist es der Teil genau über dem Altar.

Iglesia Santa Lucía de Tirajana from inside

Die Dorfkirsche von Santa Lucía de Tirajana ( Iglesia Santa Lucía de Tirajana ) im Süden von Gran Canaria. Santa Lucía de Tirajana ist ein kleines Dorf, gelegen am oberen Ende eines Barrancos in den Bergen von Gran Canaria.

Erbaut 1889 an einer Stelle wo einst eine Kapelle aus dem 17 Jahrhundert stand. Man kann sie gar nicht verfehlen. Sie steht oberhalb des Dorfes und ist auf Grund ihrer weißen Kuppel, welche an eine Mosche erinnert gut zu sehen. Unterhalb gibt es einen kleinen kostenlosen Parkplatz. Gleich neben dem Dorfplatz, welcher als Park gestaltet ist. Allgemein ist die Gegend sehr schön gestaltet. Sie wirkt sehr sauber und aufgeräumt. Alles scheint frisch renoviert zu sein. Auch die Kirsche ist frisch gestrichen. Über Tag steht sie Besuchern offen.

The Iglesia Santa Lucía de Tirajana is a small church in the south of Gran Canaria. Build in 1889 at the place of an former chapel. The church is opend for public visit. In front of the church is a public parking space an a well formed village place. The whole area looks tidy and restored.

Der Monarchfalter // The monarch butterfly

Der Monarchfalter ist ein sehr reiselustiger Geselle. Er kommt aus Nordamerika und legt bei seiner Wanderung zur Überwinterung nach Mittelamerika bis zu 3600 Kilometer zurück. Die Bäume und Pflanzen sind dann zum Teil komplett bedeckt mit dem Falter. Allerdings sind diese Bilder nicht in Amerika entstanden, sondern auf Gran Canaria. Im Schmetterlingshaus des Palmitos Parks. Laut Eigenwerbung ist es das größte Schmetterlingshaus in Europa. Ich war bis jetzt nur in diesem, deswegen kann ich das nicht beurteilen. Aber klein war es jetzt nicht gerade. Man kann schon einige Zeit da drin verbringen. Auf der Bank sitzen und zu schauen, wie andere Besucher versuchen mit ihren Phones und Tablets ein paar Schmetterlinge zu jagen. Die Schmetterlinge dort haben zwar keine Angst vor dem Menschen, aber trotzdem sind sie ständig zwischen den Blumen auf Achse. Sehr lustig, vor allem wenn jemand mit Flipflops und Ipad versucht einem Schmetterling hinterher zu stolpern.

Big Birds Portrait

Big Birds Portraits. Some shots of big birds taken at zoos. I dont realy like the zoo ambience or the zoo mood. I allways try to put it out of the picture or to blur it out. If this is not possible, I don t take the picture. Thats why you mostly see the heads of biger animals on my page. You don t have the problem when you do macro shots 🙂

Faro de Maspalomas Silhouettes

Faro de Maspalomas. In the south of Gran Canaria. On the right side to the Dunas de Maspalomas. Between Maspalomas and Meloneras. At spring time the sun goes down right behind the Faro de Maspalomas. A lot of tourists are there. Mustly concentrated on her smartphones, posting and twittering what a nice sundown they are watching. I took this pictures with my Nikon 70-200mm standing at the end of the dunas. About 200 meters away from the lighthouse. Nobody takes notice of me. The whole scenery looked for me like a chinese shadow puppetry. So I did the exposure time two stops down and startet taking some pictures against the sundown.

A Bald Eagle in the Air

The Bald Eagle. Open winged. High in the air. Showing us his beauty. The beauty of a real raptor. Sadly I have never seen one in wildlife. Just at bird shows. It`s not a european bird, and my area has no more eagles. Here are just airplanes in the air, and some hawks. So I have to go to bird shows. This Bald Eagle shots are taken on my last holiday at Gran Canaria. At the Palmitos Park exotic Birds free flight show. With my Nikon 70-200mm lens. No I spend money for a hew lens. I need something that goes till 500mm or more.

The Tailed Jay – Graphium Agamemnon

This is not a typical christmas posting. I have no girl with a sexy christmas dress for this year, or a spanking santa. This year its a butterfly called the Tailed Jay (Graphium Agamemnon). I have to admit that I have no idear about butterflys. I am just into pictures and I have never done butterfly pictures before. I googled the name, before I wrote the posting 🙂 This tailed jay lives in a huge butterfly house in Gran Canaria. I was there with my Sigma 150mm macro and a monopod. I actually came for the birds, not for the butterflys and it was my first time in an butterfly house. First I watched the russian tourists there who tries to catch some butterflys with there iPads and iPhones, but only got unsharp pictures 🙂 Well, thats the benefit of an camera with a fast lens and a high ISO range .-)

The great Dunas de Maspalomas

The great Dunas de Maspalomas are sand dunes in the south of Gran Canaria. Its a well known place for tourists. The gread task the Dunas de maspalomas is not the sand or the winds. Its to get your picture free of people, specialy free of nude people. The dunas are popular by the nudity communinty and very popular by the gay community. And both are don t like people with huge cameras. They always expect a peeping tom or pervert behind. And not a nature photographer. I was on there with my D800 the Nikon 14-24 and my Nikon 70-200mm. So I attract much attension.

Puerto de Mogan

Puerto de Mogan – The small village in the south of Gran Canaria. Easy to reach with the local bus system. You dont need a car to go there. There are less parking possibilities in Puerto de Mogan and its a small village so you can do everything there by foot. I went there wit the local bus direct from Maspalomas. Its about halt an hour. Just for a day trip. Its a nice little village for relaxing, drinking some coffe or walking around. They have a lot of flowers there, white painted houses with blue doors. The bay beach is wind and waves protected, so take your swimming things with you.

Exotic Birds

Some for european eyes exotic birds in flight. Taken at the exotic birds free flight show in Gran Canaria. Precisely at Palmitos Park. A medium large Zoo in the south of Gran Canaria. They offers amongst others a exotic birds free flight show, birds of prey show and a butterfly house. The two mentioned shows and the Butterfly house are for me the key reasons to visit this Zoo. I am not a fan of Orca or Delphine shows.

Die Exotische Vögel show war neben der Raubvogel Show und dem Schmetterlingshaus einer der Gründe für mich den Palmitos Park auf Gran Canaria zu besuchen. Delfin oder Orca Shows sind nicht so mein fall, da geh ich lieber zwei mal durchs Schmetterlingshaus und versuche schöne Bilder zu bekommen.

The two dancing Butterflies

Two beautyfull red Butterflies having fun with each other on a closed hibiscus blossom. I have never seen butterfly making love before and I don`t expected that they are doing it tail to tail 🙂 They where so busy whis themselves thaty they don`t noticed me and my 150mm Sigma macro lens. Going close was not difficult. Getting enough light for a closed apperture and for a fast shutter speed was the chellenge here 🙂 You can`t see it but they are indoor pictures. Taken at Palmitos Parks House of Butterflies. The Butterfly House and the exotic birds flight show are a good reasen to visit this medium size Zoo in the south of Gran Canaria. The Bird House at Palmitos Park is not as big as Loro Parques Bird flight area but they have a raptor and exotic birds flight show there. And a huge House of Butterflys. Using my Monopod for all thouse photos was no problem. No one of the officials cares about my monopod and 150mm macro lens. This is also a plus. You are not everywhere welcome with professional photo stuff.

Ich habe mir eigentlich die Gedanken darüber gemacht, wie sich Schmetterlinge überhaupt fortpflanzen. Jetzt weiß ich es 🙂 Aber ein wenig überrascht war ich schon im ersten Moment, vor allem darüber das sie sich überhaupt nicht gestört gefühlt haben. Sie waren einfach zu sehr mit dem Flattern und rum hüpfen beschäftigt. Nah ran zu kommen war also schon mal kein Problem. Eher das Licht, um eine möglichst kurze Belichtungszeit zu erreichen und die Blende einigermaßen zu machen zu können. Was man nicht sieht, das ganze spielte sich im Schmetterlingshaus ( House of Butterflys) des Palmits Parks auf Gran Canaria ab. Wegen des Schmetterlingshauses und der Vogelflugshow hatte sich der Besuch dort für mich gelohnt. Delfinshows interessieren mich nicht, und gegen das Vogelhaus im Loro Park kommen sie dort auf keinen Fall an. Wenn man das kennt und als Maßstab nimmt ist man eher enttäuscht.

Sand and Sky – The beautyfull Dunes of Maspalomas

The beautyfull dunes of Maspalomas. Impressions from my last journy to Gran Canaria. The dunes of Maspalomas are a 6×2 square meters areal in the south east of Gran Canaria. The best time to stay there is between the end of April and die beginning of june. Before April its very windy there, so you have some problems with sand, your towel or umbrella and after june the sand is (for me) to hot. The dunes are not so empty as they looks on my pictures. On some days they are full of members of the gay community or of full nudity people. Out there is a big full nutity area. But who cares, its a nice place for taking pictures, The Sand is very finely granulated and the wind makes nice patterns in the dunes. On one side there is a small lake, the left of a former laguna who was taken step by step by the sand. Its a breeding area for a lot of birds and a wildlife sanctuary. Net time I will come with a ND Filter doing some long time exposure.

The beach side of Puerto de Mogan

Puerto de Mogan, the small beautyfull fishing village in the south west of Gran Canaria. With the white painted small houses, alle Palms and flowers around, Puerto de Mogan realy looks like it was just build for travel catalogue pictures. OK not all of Puerto de Mogan looks realy nice. There are also some „Cement Castles“ as we call in germany the quick buils tourism hotels of the 80th. But they are a little bit away from the coast side of the village. Fot the most people its important how the beach and the water area looks like. And I can say. beautyfull. The beach and the harbor are man made, not natural as in Maspalomas. Because of that the beach of Puerto de Mogan is sheltered from the wind and the water is a little bit warmer. Its perfect for a nice day trip. To have a little swim, a good meal, and to walk around. We have been there with the public bus system. It works very good on Gran Cararia and it is cheap. But please, take a look at the pictures and you wiill see what I mean.

A proud hawk – The beauty of a flying hawk

A beautyfull hawk flying high into the sky. It was a very sunny day at Palmitos Parks hawk free flight show. Mostly blue sky just some clouds. Perfect for taking hawk pictures. I have no realy tele lens just my Nikon 70-700, my universal weapon 🙂 So with this lens its hard do take some hawk pictures in real wildlife. I hope to get a 150-600 or 200-500 some day, till then I have to go to bird shows like this for taking hawk or birds in flight pictures. The Palmitos Park is a nice little zoo in the south of Cran Canaria. They have a lot of free flight raptors in ther free flight show, such as Eagles, Marabous, Hawks, and a show with exotic birds. I can also recomend the big butterfly house. The rest is zoo standard. Some meerkats, turles, apes, a botanic garden, the usual zoo stuff 🙂 But the birdshow impressed me very much. Its not only the birds, its the the whole surrounding thats impressive. Not build in the middle of a city, like most of the zoos, the Palmitos Park is build deep into a canyon, it gives a nice atmosphere tho the whole setting.
